Benedict Worry Story (via Fr. John Detisch)

Apr 10, 2011 | All, Benedict Worry

I have got to tell you a great story about my classmate from New Jersey … Fr. Benedict Worry, who did a few parish missions for us a couple of years ago. He knows nothing about cars, or how to find a good one, and things like that.

So, he calls me. His parish was looking to replace their truck that they use for plowing and maintenance. I show him how to go to the Internet sight, called “The AutoTrader”. I am walking him through the process while we are sitting in our offices at our computers. We find a nice 2007 Ford F150 about 100 miles from his parish, with only 7,000 miles on it. At that moment, my appointment arrived, and he said he would be fine from there. About a week later he calls me, and tells me that he immediately called that dealership in southern Jersey, bought the thing “sight- unseen”, mailed them a check, and they had just delivered the truck to his Rectory. He drove it once around the block, turned it over to his maintenance man, and called the insurance company to list it on their policy. Twenty minutes later, his maintenance man comes into his office, and tells him that a city dump truck just ran a stop sign, plowed right into their new truck, and totaled it!!! I got laughing so hard that I had dropped the phone!!! It is too good of a story to keep to myself, so I had to share it with you! Luckily, for Benedict, the Mayor of Linden, New Jersey is a parishioner, and took care of it right away. And, I always thought that goofy things only happen in Erie ….
