Throughout their history, the Benedictine monks have made education a major part of their mission and no two places better demonstrate that mission than their two sister schools in Morristown and Newark. Interestingly enough, the Abbeys that support those schools share a very connected history. St. Mary’s Abbey originated in Newark and built St. Benedict’s there in 1868, and later built Delbarton in Morristown in the 1920s. Despite urban unrest in Newark in the 1960s and a temporary closing of the school in 1972, St. Benedict’s has seen a renaissance in recent years under the aegis of the Newark Abbey. Delbarton has also seen growing prestige and a growing student population in just over six decades since its first graduating class in 1948. Join two authors with great knowledge of both schools for an evening examining this unique history. Rt. Rev.
