Abbot Giles Hayes Resigns CMSM Presidency
SILVER SPRING, MD (March 19, 2012). The Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM) announced today that the Right Rev. Giles P. Hayes, OSB, Abbot of St. Mary’s Abbey in Morristown, NJ, has resigned as the conference president for reasons of health. In accord with the statutes of the conference, the Very Rev. Thomas H. Smolich, SJ, CMSM Vice President, assumed the office of president of CMSM. The membership of CMSM will elect a new president for a two‐year term at the next assembly of the conference.
At the recent semi‐annual meeting, the CMSM National Board of Directors chose Sacred Heart Brother Ronald Talbot, SC, present Secretary/Treasurer, to serve as Vice President of the conference until the next assembly.
